A funny thing happens as you get older: the conversations change from what they used to be, but the format is the same.
My friends and I are still gathering around kitchen islands with glasses of wine, lingering after workouts, texting in the group chats at all hours of the day. We’re still looking to one another for reassurance that what we’re experiencing is normal. Because a lot of life in middle age feels very not normal. Or maybe just new.
I love these conversations because they remind me that so many of the things I think are unique to my life are actually universal. Someone else is lying awake at 3 in the morning. Someone else is trying to make the daycare-to-kindergarten transition feel less emo. Someone else is wondering if they packed enough for vacation, or if they’re doing enough to make this summer “magical” for their kids.
Here are a few of the conversations I’ve been having with my friends lately (and don’t miss part 1 here!)
*As a note: today’s post might be too long for email so check it out on your desktop or the app so you don’t miss anything!
The 3am Wake Up:

Three in the morning has become the witching hour for seemingly all of my pals. Is it hormones? Anxiety? Stress? A combination of all of the above? The general consensus is that perimenopause is a b*tch and the 3am wake up is one of her meanest moves.
